cbr Quick Look Plugin

Just to let folks know, the most recent beta of Simple Comic contains a Quick Look module that can now view cbr files.  Make sure you delete the old cbz only QuickComic plugin from your library directory.

I love Simple Comic! But I’ve been unable to locate the QuickLook module that’s bundled with it. It is somewhere in the package, or is it something that I have to reboot for it to work? I’ve already made Simple Comic the default viewer for cbz and cbr files, but that doesn’t seem to have made any difference with the QuickLook settings.

    Thanks!

If you have the most recent version of 1.7, build 168, the plug-in is in the bundle. Easiest way of getting it working is to just logout and back in again. Make sure there is only one version of Simple Comic on your computer and that my old quick look plugin is no longer installed in you library.

hmm, fantastic idea, great program, but for some reason i can only quicklook cbz files – cbr files don’t even get a simple comic icon – just a generic document icon, let alone a quicklook… any suggestions?

Same problem here. I have to open cbr files manually and quicklook doesn’t work either. I have build 167. Build 168 isn’t available to download.

I have a version that properly imports the CBR UTI. I will post it tomorrow morning.

same thing here, deleted the QuickComic plugin and installed Version 1.7 b3 (0171), launched it once, no quicklook on cbr or cbz. tried qlmanage -r in terminal and relaunching the finder, to no results.

can you provide the new quicklook plugin for cbz and cbr files as a .qlgenerator one could copy to the /library/quicklook folder ?

Sorry guys about the difficulty with the plug-in.
I am a bit busy with work right now, so I have not had time to put in to Simple Comic and whatnot.
In the coming days I will try to get something working in my free time.

For Capa at least the problem was an Apple bug, a conflict between Quick Look and Time Machine. If you have Time Machine enabled be sure to exclude the Simple Comic app bundle.

Ok just found a way!! :) I’ve edited the info.plist file within the betterzip plugin package and comented the lines refering to cbr and cbz :) now I have the best of both plugins :)

Hmmmm.. I believe I have the latest beta installed (Version 1.7 beta 0188) and am running the latest version of Leopard on an Intel iMac, so this should work?

And it does – for .cbz files. However, QuickLook doesn’t seem to function for .cbr files? QuickLook recognizes that the filetype is associated with Simple Comic (the logo appears on the top right) but the window itself just displays the basic file details – unlike the preview images that appear with cbz files. Is there something I can do to fix this?

    RE: Matthew

This seems to be a problem due to cbr/cbz not being a real recognized standard with a unified UTI. Different applications define different UTIs. I have chosen to follow Unarchiver and Xee’s UTI scheme but not everyone does. There will be a trouble shooting post on this later.

I have just installed version 1.7b211 and am very happy so far. I have previoulsy used Jomic, and I think Simple Comic is superior. Thanks for the great work!!

For those with problems viewing cbr and cbz files: I have installed the BetterZip plugin, which also handles cbz files. You have to manually delete the cbz and cbr entries in the BetterZip info.plist (hard to find) and the .zip entry in the Simple Comic Quicklook plugin info.plist to avoid collision. I have manually added cbr to the SC QL plugin, and I can open cbrs without any problem, but I don’t know if it would have worked without this modification.

Any chance to modify the page count? I can only see 20 – I’d like to see either all or only the front page or first 2-3 pages, especially if that would increase performance. Or does the plugin always have to unzip the whole archive? Can be slow if the cbz files are on a network volume (I have them on my file server).
